The South China Grove Church of God (aka South China Grove Church of God) was founded in 1963 by Rev. J.T. Miller to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world in the spirit and power of Pentecost. The church has been a ministering presence in the community for 53 years.
In September 2011, the previous Pastor, Joyce Miles, appointed Gloria J. Ross as the Outreach Director of the congregation. She shared with Gloria her vision of an outreach ministry. One of the ministries was that of a Parish Nurse. Gloria was a Registered Nurse by trade.
In February 2012, Gloria became a volunteer Parish Nurse. Her status changed in August 2012 when she became a part-time employee/Parish Nurse from CMC - Northeast. This change from volunteer to a paid employee was made possible through a grant from the Cannon Foundation.
The Southside Community Outreach Center officially opened in November 2012. The ministry had a slow but effective start. In 2014, more than 22,000 contacts were touched by the congregation and the community with nourishing food, health care needs, grief support, toys, clothing, cards, visitation, exercise programs, blood pressure checks, diabetic screenings, mental health care, a soup kitchen...and the list goes on.
In 2015, we exceeded 2014 by over 1,000 contacts as we served 23,640 contacts. We had over 4,148 volunteer hours. Amazing, YES, indeed, it is!!!!!
